FAQs
Here are some of the most commonly asked questions:
How does a decluttering session work?
The first thing I do during a decluttering session is ask you to show me around and explain what you’d like to achieve, as well as highlight any problem areas. We’ll then work together to declutter, sort and organise as much as we can during the session.
How long does decluttering take?
The time required varies depending on the size of the space and the number of items that need organising.
Typically, a four-hour session is enough to declutter and organise a standard-sized room. If you’d like to work on more than one room, I recommend an in-person visit or a Zoom call so I can give you a better idea of how long it may take.
How much does it cost?
For decluttering and organising, I charge £250 for a minimum of four hours on site.
If you’d like an estimate of how long it may take to declutter your home, we can arrange a video call or FaceTime call – whatever suits you best.
In-person visits are £25, which is refundable against any future booking.
What areas do you cover?
I cover most areas in the North East. If you’re located outside of this area, get in touch to see what we can do.
What are your working hours?
Sessions are a minimum of four hours. I find this is the ideal amount of time to complete a productive session, including an initial assessment, planning, and organisation.
Will you make me throw everything away?
No. I completely understand and respect the importance of your belongings. The final decision on what to keep or part with is always yours.
That said, part of my role is to guide and support you in deciding what to keep, sell, donate, or let go of – in a way that feels right for you.
Do you provide a cleaning service?
While a lot of surface cleaning happens naturally during the decluttering process, the service I provide goes beyond that of a traditional cleaning company. If you’re looking for a deep clean, I can work alongside a cleaning company of your choice or supply one myself at an additional cost.
What experience do you have?
I am a certified KonMari Bronze Consultant with experience working with clients on a variety of decluttering, organising, and home styling projects.
Do I need to be here when you come?
Yes, your involvement is essential to ensure you’re happy with the end result. My goal is to work with you, helping you make decisions about what to keep, remove, or sell, and imagine how your newly organised space could work for you.
Do I need to tidy up before you come?
Not at all! It’s important that I see your home in its current state so I can understand how you use your space and how best to improve it. There’s absolutely no judgement.
What happens after you leave?
I understand that decluttering is just the beginning, and that keeping things in order afterwards can be a challenge. I’m always happy to stay in touch, either through follow-up visits or by phone and email, to help keep you on track and make any necessary adjustments.
Will you take my rubbish away for me?
Unfortunately, I don’t have the facilities to remove large amounts of rubbish, but I can help you sort and organise it, and offer guidance on how to dispose of it responsibly.
What happens if you find something valuable?
If I come across anything I believe to be valuable, I’ll let you know right away. However, please note, I am not a professional valuer.
Are you a house clearance company?
I believe that I offer something a little different to many house clearance companies. If you’ve experienced a recent loss, I can help you sensitively and respectfully go through your loved one’s belongings and decide what to do with them. While I don’t remove furniture or possessions myself, I can help arrange for items to be donated, recycled, or sold.
Can you buy or sell my unwanted items for me?
I don’t buy or sell items on your behalf, but I may be able to recommend trusted professionals who offer that service.
What about my pet?
Decluttering sessions can sometimes be stressful for pets. As much as I love them, I suggest for them not to be present. Pets could be left with a friend or relative, or allowed to stay in a contained room that won’t be part of the decluttering process.
Can you declutter my relative/partner/friend's house?
Absolutely – but only with their full consent. Decluttering requires co-operation and willingness from the person whose space is being organised.
What if I need to cancel?
If you need to cancel, I ask for at least 48 hours’ notice. Cancellations made with less than 48 hours’ notice may incur a charge. Of course, in the case of illness or urgent matters, please let me know as soon as possible.
I still have more questions…
If there’s anything I haven’t covered here, please don’t hesitate to get in touch via email – I’d be happy to help.
